Madi Gandolfo was born in Rome and raised in Genova, not far from the enchanting Cinque Terre. A graduate scholarship to Yale University brought her to North America, where she spent the next 15 years raising her family in the United States and Canada. Several years ago, Madi returned to Italy and set about renovating a rustic farm house outside the Umbrian town of Amelia, just 90 minutes from Rome. The result is il Poilio, a lovely, welcoming country house on a hillside, surrounded by olive and apple trees.
